INTER MILAN - HOME SHIRT 2016/2017

Internazionale, known in English as Inter Milan, were founded in 1908 by a breakaway group from the Milan Cricket and Football Club who wanted to field foreign players, which is exactly where the "Internazionale" name comes from. They share the San Siro (officially the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza) with rivals AC Milan and are nicknamed the Nerazzurri (The Black and Blues). They are the only club never to have played outside Italy's top flight.

The 2016/2017 season, during which this understated home shirt was worn, was a turbulent one at the San Siro. Frank de Boer began the campaign but was dismissed in November 2016, with Stefano Pioli taking over until May 2017 before Stefano Vecchi saw out the final games. Inter finished seventh in Serie A, a disappointing return that left them out of European competition the following season.

Inter's cup campaigns brought little cheer. Drawn into a Europa League group with Southampton, Sparta Prague and Hapoel Be'er Sheva, they finished bottom and crashed out at the group stage, a chastening result for a club of their stature. In the Coppa Italia they reached the quarter-finals before their run was ended, the managerial upheaval doing nothing to steady a side that flattered to deceive.

Captain Mauro Icardi was the one bright spark, top-scoring with 24 league goals. The Argentine's season was not without drama, however, as he fell out spectacularly with Inter's ultras over comments in his autobiography, and they briefly demanded he hand back the armband.
