HERTHA BERLIN - HOME SHIRT 2025/2026
Hertha Berlin were founded on 25 July 1892 and are one of the capital's grand old institutions, affectionately known across Germany as Die Alte Dame (The Old Lady). Since 1963 they have played at the Olympiastadion, the vast arena built for the 1936 Olympic Games and one of the largest club stadiums in the country. The club's name and their famous blue and white colours come from a charming source: a steamship with a blue and white funnel that one of the founders had sailed on with his father. Hertha were German champions in 1930 and 1931.
The 2025/2026 season, during which this classic home shirt was worn, saw Hertha compete in the 2. Bundesliga under Stefan Leitl, who guided the side for the full campaign. The blue and white shirt, styled with bold brushstroke stripes, became a talking point in itself when the league initially objected to its plain reverse. On the pitch, Hertha finished a solid seventh of 18 with 51 points, just one point shy of sixth and comfortably clear of any relegation worries after a steady, respectable year at the Olympiastadion.
The real excitement came in the DFB-Pokal, where the Berliners enjoyed a memorable run to the quarter-finals. They saw off Preußen Münster on penalties, brushed aside SV Elversberg 3-0, and produced the tie of the round by thrashing Kaiserslautern 6-1. Their adventure ended agonisingly against top-flight Freiburg, a 1-1 draw settled by a 5-4 penalty shootout that just went against them.
Captain Fabian Reese was the heartbeat of the team, top-scoring with 10 league goals, but his most remarkable feat was topping the entire division's assist charts with 13, a true creator's return. Behind him, goalkeeper Tjark Ernst was among the best in the league, keeping around 10 clean sheets and earning a summer move to Dutch side Feyenoord. For a proud club chasing a return to the top flight, it was a season of promise and no little entertainment.
