HAMBURG - AWAY SHIRT 2024/2025
Hamburg are one of German football's grand old institutions, founded in 1887 and based in the great port city on the Elbe in the country's north. Known as der Dinosaurier (the Dinosaur) for their once unbroken Bundesliga tenure, and as die Rothosen (the Red Shorts), they play at the vast Volksparkstadion, former home to a famous stadium clock that ticked off every year, day and hour the club had spent in the top flight until relegation stopped it in 2018.
This season carried a weight few others have. 2024/2025 was Hamburg's seventh straight campaign in the 2. Bundesliga, and finally the long wait ended, with promotion back to the Bundesliga sealed on 10 May 2025 thanks to a thumping 6-1 win over Ulm. They finished second on 59 points from 34 games, pipped to the title by Köln on the very final day. Steffen Baumgart began the season in charge before Merlin Polzin, the gaffer who steered them home, took the reins in late November. This celebratory away shirt marks the campaign that brought the top tier back.
There was drama throughout. In the DFB-Pokal, Hamburg hammered fourth-tier Meppen 7-1 in the first round before bowing out 2-1 to Bundesliga side Freiburg in the second. The promotion run-in was nerve-shredding to the last, the title slipping away only on the final afternoon, yet automatic promotion was never surrendered.
Up front, Davie Selke led the charge, top-scoring with 23 goals across all competitions, while Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer chipped in with goals and relentless energy down the flanks. After seven years in the wilderness, the Dinosaur was back among the giants.
