Forward Madison 2021 Special Edition 'FWB' Shirt

FORWARD MADISON - SPECIAL EDITION SHIRT 2021

Forward Madison FC are American soccer's cult favourites, founded in 2018 and based in Madison, the capital of Wisconsin. Nicknamed the Flamingos, an identity worn proudly in their famous pink kits, they play at Breese Stevens Field, a characterful ground built in 1926 that holds around 5,000 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Few lower-league clubs anywhere have built a following quite like it.

The 2021 season, during which this striking special edition shirt was worn, saw the Flamingos compete in USL League One, the third tier of the American game, under manager Carl Craig. This is the celebrated "FWB" shirt made by Hummel, its lower hem carrying a QR code that let a supporter buy a beer for a fellow fan at Breese Stevens, with the recipient given the buyer's details so they could say thanks. It is one of the more charming ideas football kit design has produced.

On the pitch it was a steady rather than spectacular campaign. Forward Madison finished 9th in USL League One and missed out on the play-offs, ending the year with 8 wins, 12 draws and 8 losses from their 28 matches, a return of 36 points from 32 goals scored and 34 conceded. Those twelve draws told the story of a side hard to beat but short of a cutting edge.

Jake Keegan top scored with 6 goals across the campaign, leading the line for a club whose real reputation is built as much on its atmosphere and its supporters as on its results.
