DEPORTIVO CALI - HOME SHIRT 2024
Asociación Deportivo Cali are one of Colombia's grand old clubs, founded in 1912 and based in Cali, the capital of the Valle del Cauca region in the south-west of the country. Known as Los Azucareros (the Sugar Growers) and El Verdiblanco for their green and white colours, they play at the Estadio Deportivo Cali in nearby Palmira, a ground opened in 2008 that is a rarity in Colombian football as one of the few stadiums owned outright by the club itself.
The 2024 season, during which this classic home shirt was worn, was a difficult one for a club used to competing near the top. Colombia's calendar splits into the Apertura and Finalización tournaments, and Jaime de la Pava's side failed to reach the play-off quadrangulars in either, while also going out of the Copa Colombia. Instead of chasing titles, the year became a fight for survival.
Cali spent much of the campaign anxiously watching the relegation average table, the mechanism by which Colombian sides go down. Only in the closing rounds did they finally secure their place in the top flight for another year, with Patriotas Boyacá and Jaguares de Córdoba dropping instead.
For a club of Deportivo Cali's stature, multiple-time Colombian champions and losing finalists in the 1999 Copa Libertadores, it was a season to forget rather than celebrate, and one that made simply staying up feel like an achievement.
