CLERMONT FOOT - THIRD SHIRT 2024/2025
Here come Les Lanciers, The Lancers, the pride of Clermont-Ferrand in France's Auvergne region and the home city of Michelin. The story stretches back to a first incarnation in 1911, with the modern Clermont Foot 63 created in 1990 through a merger, and they play at the tidy Stade Gabriel-Montpied. For years the great nearly-men of French football, Clermont finally reached the top flight for the very first time in 2021, becoming Auvergne's first Ligue 1 club and staying three seasons before dropping back down in 2024.
The 2024/2025 season in Ligue 2 was a battle for survival. Sébastien Bichard began the campaign in the dugout before Laurent Batlles took over during a turbulent run, and Les Lanciers eventually finished 16th of 18, and this striking third shirt was worn through a nervy fight to beat the drop. With just 30 league goals all season, chances were hard to come by, and safety could not be secured through the table alone.
Instead it went to the relegation play-off. Clermont travelled to National side Boulogne-sur-Mer and won the first leg 3-1, then lost the return 2-1 at home, doing just enough to survive 4-3 on aggregate and preserve their Ligue 2 status.
In a lean attacking year, Congolese winger Mons Bassouamina led the scoring with 4 league goals, level with Maïdine Douane, while veterans Famara Diedhiou and Henri Saivet chipped in and goalkeeper Théo Guivarch was kept busy throughout.
