AL AHLY - HOME SHIRT 2023/2024

Al Ahly were founded in 1907 and are the heartbeat of Cairo, and indeed of Egyptian football as a whole. Known to their millions of supporters as the Red Devils (الشياطين الحمر, Al Shayateen Al Humr), they are the most decorated club in the history of the African game, so dominant that CAF crowned them the African Club of the Century. They played this campaign at the vast Cairo International Stadium, the great national bowl in the east of the capital.

The 2023/2024 season, during which this iconic red home shirt was worn, was the club's 117th and their 65th in a row in the Egyptian Premier League. Under Swiss manager Marcel Koller, Al Ahly swept to the title with 85 points, winning 27 of their 34 games and finishing six clear of big-spending Pyramids, with eternal rivals Zamalek a distant third.

It was a season of silverware on every front. The Red Devils were crowned champions of Africa once more, lifting a record-extending 12th CAF Champions League after seeing off Espérance de Tunis in the final. They added the Egyptian Super Cup and the Egypt Cup too, and travelled to the FIFA Club World Cup, where they took third place despite a 2-0 semi-final defeat to Fluminense.

The star of the show was Wessam Abou Ali. The Palestinian striker top-scored with 18 league goals and 19 in all competitions, a remarkable haul given he only arrived from Swedish side Sirius in January. Former Borussia Dortmund forward Anthony Modeste chipped in after a free transfer, with Emam Ashour and South African winger Percy Tau pulling the strings.
