AL AHLY - AWAY SHIRT 2023/2024
Al Ahly were founded in Cairo in 1907 and stand as the most successful club African football has ever produced. Their supporters know them as the Red Devils (الشياطين الحمر, Al Shayateen Al Humr), and their trophy haul is so vast that CAF named them the African Club of the Century. Home for this campaign was the Cairo International Stadium, the enormous national arena on the eastern edge of the Egyptian capital.
The 2023/2024 season, during which this classy away shirt was worn, was Al Ahly's 117th and their 65th consecutive year in the Egyptian Premier League. Guided by Swiss boss Marcel Koller, the Red Devils stormed to the championship on 85 points, taking 27 wins from 34 matches to finish six points above Pyramids and well clear of rivals Zamalek.
Trophies arrived from every direction. Al Ahly were again crowned kings of the continent, claiming a record-extending 12th CAF Champions League with victory over Espérance de Tunis in the final. The Egyptian Super Cup and the Egypt Cup followed, and the club finished third at the FIFA Club World Cup, bowing out of the semi-finals to a 2-0 defeat against Brazil's Fluminense.
Up top, Wessam Abou Ali was the find of the year. The Palestinian striker fired 18 league goals and 19 in all competitions, a stunning return considering he only signed from Sweden's Sirius in January. He was helped by the free signing of ex-Borussia Dortmund marksman Anthony Modeste, while playmaker Emam Ashour and South African forward Percy Tau supplied the creativity.
