BORUSSIA DORTMUND - HOME SHIRT 2015/2016

Borussia Dortmund were founded in 1909 and hail from Dortmund in the Ruhr region of North Rhine-Westphalia. Known as Die Schwarzgelben (The Black and Yellows) and Die Borussen, they play at the Westfalenstadion, officially Signal Iduna Park, whose 81,359 capacity makes it the largest ground in Germany. Its Sudtribune, the famous "Yellow Wall", is the biggest terrace in European football and packs in close to 25,000 standing supporters.

The 2015/2016 season, during which this classic home shirt was worn, was the first under Thomas Tuchel, who took over from the departed Jurgen Klopp. After a disappointing seventh-placed finish the year before, Dortmund roared back to second in the Bundesliga, winning 24 of their 34 games and amassing 78 points. That tally would have won many a title, but Bayern Munich were imperious and finished eight points clear on 88.

There was cup drama on two fronts. In the DFB-Pokal, Dortmund reached the final at Berlin's Olympiastadion, only to lose to Bayern on penalties after a goalless 120 minutes. In the Europa League, they were drawn against Klopp's Liverpool in the quarter-finals and denied in unforgettable fashion, beaten 4-3 at Anfield and 5-4 on aggregate after leading 3-1 on the night.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was electric, scoring 25 league goals and 39 in all competitions. Henrikh Mkhitaryan pulled the strings behind him, setting a then Bundesliga record for assists in a single season, while Marco Reus chipped in with goals and menace whenever fit. It was a campaign of thrilling football that fell agonisingly short of silverware.
